2010 WSOP Schedule
By Dan Cypra @ Poker News Daily
The schedule for the 2010 World Series of Poker (WSOP) was officially announced on Thursday and features a brand new $50,000 buy-in Player’s Championship that will play out in an Eight Game format. Fifty-seven bracelets will be on the line.
The Player’s Championship is the most expensive event ever to kick off the WSOP, which is now in its 41st year. The $50,000 buy-in Player’s Championship will award the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy to its victor and feature Limit Hold’em, Omaha High-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud High-Low Split-8 or Better, No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha, and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball. The final table will be played solely in No Limit Hold’em and ESPN will provide television coverage of the event, which will likely bring out the very elite names in the poker community.
On the other end of the buy-in spectrum, six open $1,000 events will be held in addition to the traditional Ladies’ and Seniors’ Championships. The first five weekends of the 2010 WSOP, which begins on May 28th, will feature $1,000 buy-in tournaments. Last year, the Stimulus Special, which featured a $1,000 price tag, drew a record-setting crowd of 6,012 players to the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The 2010 WSOP Main Event will kick off on July 5th, bucking a trend of beginning before the Fourth of July. The final table will be determined on July 17th and the third installment of the November Nine will take to the felts at the Rio from November 6th to 9th in what will likely be a similar schedule to this year. Players will purportedly be assigned a starting day for the Main Event to avoid a fiasco like the one that unfolded on Day 1D in 2009, when more than 500 poker hopefuls were shut out after the tournament reached capacity.
Without further delay, here is the schedule of events for the 2010 WSOP. All times are local:

TMZ REPORTS!!
Poker Legends Sued for Robot Fraud
Posted Oct 2nd 2009 12:01AM by TMZ Staff
The biggest names in poker are being sued by two people who claim they were defrauded on an online poker site.
Lary Kennedy and Greg Omotoy claim they opened an account at fulltiltpoker.com and — as luck would have it — they amassed winnings of more than $80,000.
The famous poker defendants who own the site — including Chris “Jesus” Ferguson, Howard Lederer, Phil Ivey and Mike Matusow — allegedly accused the plaintiffs of using an automated play functions called “robots” instead of playing the game themselves. Since using robots violates Full Tilt’s rules, the site’s owners confiscated more than $80,000.
There are other gripes as well in the lawsuit, filed today in L.A. County Superior Court, including an allegation that fulltilitpoker.com manipulates the game through the use of robots of its own so it becomes more a game of luck than skill which is outlawed in California.

“Stimulus Special” Event Hits Capacity
Poker is officially dead.
Ok, maybe not.
The World Series of Poker juggernaut continues to roll on as Event #4 (the $1k NLHE “Stimulus Special” tournament) has officially been announced as a sell-out.
The World Series of Poker, in a press release issued earlier today, announced that the event has reached its cap of 6,000 players. 3,000 players are taking part in Day 1A (which started roughly three hours ago), and another 3,000 players will try their luck tomorrow.
This represents the largest ever turnout for a non-main event tournament in the history of the World Series of Poker. The previous record was established last year when 3,929 players turned out for a $1,500 No Limit Hold’em event.
The winner of this year’s “Stimulus Special” tournament is guaranteed to receive at least $750k.
The first week of the 2009 World Series of Poker has provided nothing but good news, not only for the World Series of Poker, but also for poker in general.
Poker is clearly alive and well despite a global recession.
201 players turned out for the $40k NLHE tournament (Event #2), which created the largest non-Main event prize pool in WSOP history.
A staggering 918 players turned out for the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Low event yesterday, easily besting the old record of 833. According to the WSOP, this is the “largest live Omaha tournament ever played”. It should be interesting to see how the $1,500 PLO event on Monday does – I can’t see it having less players than the Omaha Hi/Low event.
All in all, the 2009 WSOP is off to an exceptional start.

201 Players for 40k NLHE Event at WSOP
Posted by RounderKevin On May – 28 – 2009
The total number of entrants in Event #2 of the 2009 World Series of Poker ($40k NLHE) was a popular topic of debate over the past couple of months.
There were many side bets made prior to the World Series of Poker as to the total number of people that would sign up to play in this event.
Some people thought that the number would be 150. Others thought that this was far too pessimistic, and that the final total would fall somewhere in the 250-300 player range.
in the end, the total number of entrants was: 201.
This ends up creating a total prize pool of just over $7.7 million dollars.
The first place finisher in this event will walk away with just under $1.9 million dollars, while the runner-up will receive $1.17 million.
The top 27 finishers in this tournament will all receive at least $71,858.
All in all, certainly not a bad turnout for this event, given the size of the buy-in.
As you could expect, many of the top poker players in the world turned out for this event.
Names such as Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson are all playing today.
A number of poker’s “young guns”, including Justin Bonomo, Phil Galfond and Chad Batista, have all registered to play in the event as well.
A number of well-known names have already hit the rail, just a few short hours into the event.
Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Dario Minieri and Jonathan Little all hit the rail early on Day 1.
Ted Forrest, Antonio Esfandiari, Justin Bonomo and Tony G are all currently sitting near the top of the leaderboard.

Florida Gambling Bill Passes Legislature. Huge Lift For Poker!!

By BRENDAN FARRINGTON Associated Press Writer
Story Created: May 8, 2009 at 6:39 PM EDT
Story Updated: May 8, 2009 at 6:39 PM EDT
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) – Gov. Charlie Crist will negotiate – again – an agreement to let the Seminole Tribe install blackjack tables and slot machines at its casinos, but this time lawmakers won’t take him to court.
The House and Senate passed a bill (SB 788) Friday that sets guidelines for a compact with the tribe and authorizes Crist to work out the final details. The votes come a year and a half after Crist signed a compact with the tribe that’s similar to the proposed deal lawmakers approved.
Under the proposal going to Crist, the tribe would be able to run blackjack and other card games at their three Broward County casinos and the Hard Rock in Tampa. They would be able to install Las Vegas-style slots at all seven of their casinos, which also include locations in Big Cypress, Immokalee and Brighton.
In exchange, the state will get at least $150 million a year from the tribe – if it accepts the deal. The proposal isn’t quite as good for the tribe as the one the Supreme Court said Crist wasn’t authorized to sign in November 2007. That deal allowed blackjack and slots at all seven casinos and the minimum the tribe agreed to give the state was $100 million a year.
The legislative leaders at the time, House Speaker Marco Rubio and Senate President Ken Pruitt, went to the Supreme Court to challenge the agreement. Under the Crist deal, the tribe went ahead and set up the slot machines and blackjack, which it is still running.
If the tribe agrees to the deal and the federal government agrees to the deal, the money will be used to help pay for state schools.
“Today, we move closer to reaching an agreement that will support education, put unemployed Floridians back to work and bring economic relief to our state,” the tribe said in a statement. “We remain hopeful that together with Gov. Crist and the Legislature, we can agree upon a Compact.”
Senate President Jeff Atwater, R-North Palm Beach, said the tribe probably won’t get much better than what the proposal offers.
“This is a deal that they should take seriously and quickly negotiate and bring closure to,” Atwater said.
And if they do, he recommends a special session to ratify the deal so the state can get its money as soon as possible.
Horse and dog tracks and jai-alai frontons also get something from the bill. Poker rooms at the pari-mutuel facilities can stay open longer and they can have larger pots. Also, South Florida pari-mutuels where voters have already approved slot machines will have their tax rate on the slots profits reduced from 50 percent to 35 percent. They’ll also be able to run blackjack and other card games if voters approve.
“There were some people who would have liked more and some people would have liked to see a few things differently but all in all they did a great job,” said Dan Adkins, president of Mardi Gras Gaming at the Hallandale Beach dog track.
Crist praised lawmakers for coming to an agreement on a proposed compact, which was one of his session priorities.
“I now look forward to working closely with the Seminole Tribe to help secure the continued success of Florida’s students and teachers, and complete the work accomplished by the Florida Legislature,” Crist said in a prepared statement. “Florida’s future is brighter and stronger as a result of today’s agreement.”

As anyone who has played No Limit Texas Hold’em in one of the many modern-day poker rooms can attest, the game is played differently these days.
